Bhubaneswar: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced the rescheduling of the PSLV-C59/PROBA-3 mission to December 5, 2024, at 16:12 hours IST.
This decision follows the detection of an anomaly in the PROBA-3 spacecraft, which necessitated a delay to ensure mission safety and success.
The PSLV-C59 mission, which is set to launch from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, will carry the European Space Agency’s (ESA) PROBA-3 satellites. This mission marks the 61st flight of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the 26th using the PSLV-XL configuration. The PROBA-3 mission is notable for its demonstration of precision formation flying, where two satellites will maintain a fixed configuration in space to perform a large-scale science experiment.
ISRO’s collaboration with ESA on this mission underscores the importance of international partnerships in advancing space exploration and technology. The rescheduled launch aims to place the PROBA-3 satellites into a highly elliptical orbit, showcasing the PSLV’s reliability for complex orbital deliveries.
