Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024: Baroda Smash World Record for Highest-Ever T20 Total – N.F Times

Indore: Baroda created history by scoring a monumental 349/5 against Sikkim in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Thursday, setting a new record for the highest total in T20 cricket. Under Krunal Pandya’s captaincy, the team decimated the Sikkim bowlers, with Bhanu Pania delivering a stunning unbeaten 134 from just 51 balls.

Pania’s remarkable innings, with 15 sixes and five fours, was the cornerstone of a batting lineup where each top-order player made a substantial contribution. This score surpassed the previous T20 high of 344/4 set by Zimbabwe against Gambia in Nairobi earlier in the year.

The Baroda batsmen, including Shivalik Sharma (55 off 17), Abhimanyu Singh (53 off 17), Vishnu Solanki (50 off 16), and Shashwat Rawat (43 off 16), unleashed a barrage of 37 sixes and 18 fours, turning the match into a nightmare for the Sikkim bowlers.

The tally of sixes also set a new record for a T20 match, outdoing the 27 hit by Zimbabwe against Gambia.

Choosing to bat first, Baroda’s openers quickly put up 92 runs in just 5.1 overs. The dismissal of both openers in the sixth over did little to halt their charge. They forged partnerships of 94 runs for the third wicket and 88 for the fifth, propelling them to this groundbreaking total.

To put this achievement in perspective, it exceeds India’s highest T20I score of 297/6 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad in October 2024, and the previous domestic T20 record of 287/3 set by Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2024 IPL.

This extraordinary performance by Baroda is sure to go down as a landmark event in T20 cricket history.
