Cuttack to Host ‘Sangeet Sandhya’ Honoring Odia Lyricist

Cuttack(Pratap Prusty): A musical evening dedicated to acclaimed Odia lyricist Rajanikant Nayak will be held at Shaheed Bhawan in Chaudhury Bazaar, bringing together artists, public representatives, and music lovers to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Odisha. Titled “Sangeet Sandhya,” the program is being organized by the cultural body Ame Kalakar. The organizers have extended an open invitation to the public, describing the event as a celebration of music, culture, and unity coinciding with the Odia New Year festivities. Addressing a press meet, organizer and editor Paresh Nath Das said the initiative aims to promote Odia music and create a platform for cultural exchange and collective celebration. “Such events help preserve our musical legacy while fostering a sense of togetherness,” he said. Rajanikant Nayak, known for penning several popular Odia songs including “Nakhi Nani Pua Bhagia,” “Bata Chhada Asuchi Dussehra Bazaar Medha,” “Tume Ete Bhala Boli,” and “Sahe Atha Belapatra Sahe Atha Champa,” has earned widespread recognition for his contribution to Odia music. Cuttack Municipal Corporation Mayor Subash Chandra Singh will attend as the chief guest. Barabati-Cuttack MLA Sofia Firdous, Dr. Niranjan Tripathy, CMC chairperson Monalisa Das, and noted actor Sritam Das are expected to join as distinguished guests. The evening will feature performances by prominent singers including Shekhar Ghosh, Subash Das, Debashish Mahapatra, Mohammad Abid, and Kumar Bapi, who will render some of Nayak’s well-known compositions. The organizers expressed hope that the event would draw a large audience and further strengthen appreciation for Odia music and cultural traditions.
