Rourkela : Rich tributes were paid by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das, an illustrious son of Odisha on his 145th Birth Anniversary on 9th October. A function was organised by the Education wing of Town Services Department of RSP near the Gopabandhu Statue at Sector- 19, Ambagan Chowk. Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, RSP was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the function by paying floral tributes at the statue of the ‘Utkalmani’. He was accompanied by Mr. S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works), Mr. P K Satapathy, ED (P&A), several Chief General Managers and other senior officers of RSP. The programme commenced with the rendition of the state anthem “Bande Utkal Janani”.The first prize winners of the elocution competition in the senior group namely Rajalaxmi Sahoo, Class-XII student of Ispat Vidyamandir, Sector-19, Rupali Biswal , Class-XII student of Ispat Vidyamandir, Sector-19 and Archita Behera, Class-X student of Ispat English Medium School, Sector-20 spoke about the life and times of the ‘Utkalmani’ in Odia, Hindi & English.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Bhowmick awarded the winners of the competition in the senior and junior category in the three different languages, that is, Odia, Hindi and English. Large number of Rourkelites from various walks of life, including school children, took part in the function.
Shubhalaxmi Sahoo, Class-VIII student of Deepika Ispat Sikshya Sadan, Sector-18 welcomed the audience. Subhalaxmi Mohanty, student of Ispat Vidya Mandir anchored the programmes while Priti Gouda, student Class-X student Deepika Ispat Sikshya Sadan proposed a formal vote of thanks.
