Rourkela : ‘Deeksha Ispat Surakhsha Kaushal Kendra’- a one of its kind centre for skill development and instilling behavioural safety habits amongst Contract workers and local youth was inaugurated at SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant by Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge on 24th November 2022. Mr. S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works), Mr. P K Satapathy, ED (P&A), Mr. P K Sahoo, ED (Projects), Mr. Somnath Tripathi, ED (MM), Dr. B K Hota, ED (M&HS), Mr. A K Behuria, CGM In-charge (F&A), Mr. S N Ojha, Regional Director In-charge (DTNBWE), and many other senior officers and employees from various units of RSP were present on the occasion.
It is worth mentioning here that, the Centre located in the Town Engineering Office premises of Sector-5, is equipped with different modules like welding safety, electrical safety, gas safety, Height safety, material handling safety and conveyor belt operation safety etc. Expert faculties from National Board for Workers education under Ministry of Labour and Employment will impart theoretical and practical inputs through working modules. One day programme shall be conducted on each module. Certificate of training shall be issued to the participants by Regional Director I/c, DTNBWE.
The highlight of the Centre is the working models that can give the trainees real life experience. Running model of a conveyor belt has been installed to give the trainees hand on experience in handling the various safety equipments and tips to safeguard themselves while working near a conveyor. Similarly, an operational model of an U-seal of the gas grid has been set up to create awareness regarding the safety precautions and Standard Operating Practices to be taken care of while managing a gas pipeline. To teach the safety precautions to be taken while working at height, an enclosure has been built with ladder, platform and net. Different electrical equipments too have been provided so as to make the trainees aware about electrical safety.
The ‘Deeksha Ispat Surakhsha Kaushal Kendra’ will not only enrich the skill sets of the contract workers and local youth but will also develop a bank of skilled people in and around Rourkela with specialization in Behavioral Safety.
