Bhubaneswar: An under-trial prisoner (UTP) has been hospitalised after he slit his genitals at a jail in Odisha’s Bhadrak district today.
The injured UTP has been identified as Sushant Majhi of Tihidi area in Bhadrak. He has been arrested in connection with a case of domestic violence, sources said.
Majhi reportedly slit his genitals with the mosquito coil stand inside Bhadrak Special Sub-Jail. He also inflicted a deep cut on his hand, sources added.
Majhi was initially rushed to a hospital at Bhadrak and later he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.
“Majhi has been arrested and put inside the jail for torturing his wife. He might have done this under mental stress,” said a source.
