Dreaded criminal nabbed after police encounter in Odisha’s Puri – N.F Times



Bhubaneswar: A dreaded criminal was nabbed following a police encounter in Odisha’s Puri district today.

The criminal, identified as Kalu Bhola of Batagaon under Puri Sadar police limits, was arrested after he sustained bullet injuries in the encounter, cops said.

Satyabadi police in Puri district got information that Kalu was roaming near Sagar Snana Melan Ground, located close to Suando bridge, with deadly weapons in the afternoon.

Satyabadi police IIC Bijay Ketan Behera and along with other police personnel rushed to the spot.

Upon noticing the police team, Kalu opened fire on the cops and tried to flee the spot. Satyabadi police IIC retaliated in a controlled manner, sources said.

Kalu was nabbed from the spot after he sustained bullet injuries on his right leg. Police also seized a pistol and live ammunition from the injured criminal.

Satyabadi police Sub-Inspector Dipti Ranjan Sahoo too sustained injuries during the exchange of fire. The injured criminal has been admitted to Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), police said.

Preliminary investigation has suggested that Kalu was planning to commit some major crimes in Puri town and on its outskirts, they added.

The dreaded criminal had earlier been booked in as many as 18 cases of crime in Puri Sadar, Chandanpur and Baselisahi police stations in Puri district.
