Odisha Congress organises ‘marriage’ of BJD and BJP in Capital – N.F Times

Not only were wedding cards designed and distributed, even a mandap was set up for exchange of vows between the BJP and BJD at Master Canteen Square

Bhubaneswar: In a symbolic and satirical gesture to justify that the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have a tacit understanding and are two sides of the same coin, the state unit of the Congress today organised a ‘marriage ceremony’ between the two parties in the Odisha Capital.

Not only were wedding cards designed and distributed, even a mandap was set up for exchange of vows between the BJP and BJD at Master Canteen Square. Members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) -the student Wing of the Congress-were seen distributing the invitations and putting up posters. The Congress even released a song “BJP sange BJD ra bahaghara” to which party members including Odisha in-charge Ajoy Kumar and senior leader and Jatani MLA Sura Routray  were seen shaking a leg.

“Both BJD and BJP were in a live-in relationship for 23 years. We are now finally making it official by getting the parties married,” the Congress said.

Members of both parties, according to the Congress, were implicitly supporting each other in major issues. The BJD supported candidature of Droupadi Murmu and even the BJP’s demonetisation move. Both of them aided election of Ashwini Vaishnaw to the Rajya Sabha. The BJD supported the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, and even helped the BJP to weaken the RTI. From Mamita Meher death to Mahanga double murder to Minister Naba Das’s killing, both the BJP and the BJD supported each other in shielding the accused, the Congress claimed further alleging that even the Enforcement Directorate and CBI have softened their stance towards Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and 5T Chairman VK Pandian due to the BJD-BJP nexus. “We are now officiating their relationship with seven vows of marriage,” the members added.

Reacting to this, BJP spokesperson Anil Biswal said this is a narrative jointly conceived and propagated by the Congress and the ruling BJD. “The central leadership of Congress party is now aware that the BJP is gaining stronghold in the state and is therefore resorting to such desperate tactics. The BJD is building the narrative and the Congress spreading it. Many Congress leaders have shared that the PCC President is chosen by Naveen Patnaik. The BJP took the Congress’ share of votes in the by-elections which is why the party is indulging in false propaganda,” he added.
