Bhubaneswar: Renowned actor from Odisha, Sadhu Meher, today breathed his last in Mumbai. He was 84.
Meher carved a niche for himself in both Odia and Hindi film industries. He had been conferred with Padma Shri award in 2017.
Meher was well-known for movies like Ankur, Manthan, Mrigaya and Bhuvan Shome. He had won National Film Award for Best Actor for his movie Ankur.
He had acted in critically-acclaimed Odia movie Bhukha. Meher was also the director and producer of a few movies.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed grief over the demise of the veteran actor.
“Meher was a popular actor and director in both Odia and Hindi film industries. He had received laurels for his brilliant acting skills. He was the first Odia actor to receive the National Film Award. His demise has left a void in the film industry,” said the Chief Minister in a condolence message.
