Bhawanipatna: Two persons were killed on the spot as the motorcycle on which they were travelling had a head-on collision with a container truck at Dhepaguda locality under Biswanathpur police limits on state highway (SH-6) connecting Bhawanipatna and Visakhapatnam in Kalahandi district, today.
The deceased persons were identified as Arun Dhangda Majhi and Padmalochan Patra, both of whom belonged to Pokhari Bandha village under Biswanathpur police limits of the district.
According to a police source, Arun and Padmalochan were masons and the two were on their way to a construction site in Gorakela when they met with an accident. The truck was coming from Rayagada and going elsewhere in the district. The speeding truck overturned after hitting the motorcycle. Driver of the four-wheeler lost control of the vehicle leading to an accident, the source added.
Truck driver fled from the spot leaving the vehicle on the road soon after the accident.
On being informed, Biswanathpur police reached the spot and seized the truck, and launched a probe to ascertain the deaths and the cause of accident. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem.
Tension was triggered following the road mishap. Locals staged an agitation demanding compensation to the deceased’s next of kin. Protest was underway till the time when this report was filed.
