Woman, 2 others held for lover’s murder in Odisha’s Subarnapur – N.F Times


The accused, identified as Jhilli Mahapatra of Deogarh district along with her associates Rita Nayak and Rajiv Kumar of Birmaharajpur, have been produced in court. 


Subarnapur: Police have arrested a woman along with two of her accomplices for allegedly murdering her lover a few days back in Odisha’s Subarnapur district here today. The accused, identified as Jhilli Mahapatra of Deogarh district along with her associates Rita Nayak and Rajiv Kumar of Birmaharajpur, have been produced in court.

As per reports, Jhilli, the prime accused, was in a relationship with one Dambru Adhikari of Saleipadar village for the last five years. However, she recently found out that Dambru was cheating on her with another girl from Rourkela. In an attempt to take revenge, she got in touch with Rita and Rajiv and made an offer of Rs 40,000 to kill Dambru.

On January 26, Rita nd Rajiv invited Dambru to go out on the pretext of attending a party and then killed him.

Police investigation later detected the duo’s involvement along with that of mastermind Jhilli.

Addressing mediapersons, Subarnapur SP Yashpratap Srimal confirmed that it was a case of murder. “A case of murder was registered on January 26 in Subalaya station on January 26. The deceased was identified as Dambru Adhikari. Initially, the accused made it look like an accident but our team investigated the case and found that it was a case of murder on revenge grounds. The prime accused Jhilli aka Kajal Mahapatra was sbsequently nabbed from Sambalpur. Her two local associates Rita and Rajiv were nabbed too. Probe revealed that Jhilli had hatched a plan to get rid of Dambru after she found that he was having an affair with another girl. She paid Rs 40,000 to Rita and Rajiv to commit the act. On January 26, the accused took Dambru to an isolated place on the plea of partying and then hacked him to death. They then kept the body on the two-wheeler to make it appear like an accident. Our team recovered the damaged Sim card and managed to trace Jhilli following which the trio was nabbed,” he added.
