Konark: In a highly shocking incident, a minor girl allegedly ended her life in Konark area of Odisha’s Puri district after being sexually harassed by her father.
The mother of the girl found her in a hanging state inside their house on Saturday night and rushed the teenager to Gop Community Health Centre, where she was declared dead by doctor.
As per reports, the girl’s father had been subjecting her to sexual exploitation for some days. Though his wife warned him in this regard, the accused continued to sexually harass his daughter.
Unable the bear the exploitation and shame, the girl allegedly took the extreme step of ending her life by hanging herself.
The Konark police have registered an unnatural death case in the matter while the body was recovered and sent for post-mortem.
Till last reports came in, the family members of the deceased were yet to lodge any complaint.
However, police were carrying out an investigation into the incident.
“No formal complaint has been lodged with us, so far. Nonetheless, we are actively conducting a probe into the matter. We will pursue appropriate actions based on the findings of our investigation. During our on-site inspection, the girl’s father was not present at home, and it has been reported that he has been absent since his daughter’s demise,” said Purnachandra Sethi, IIC, Konark Police Station.
