Bhubaneswar: A massive fire broke out at Nalbana Bird Sanctuary inside Odisha’s Chilika lake today.
The blaze also engulfed Kalupada jetty, located near the bird sanctuary.
Many migratory birds and wild animals including fishing cats might have been killed in the inferno.
Quite a few fishing boats and nets at Kalupada jetty were destroyed in the fire.
“The fire broke out at Nalban island inside Chilika lake in the evening and covered a portion of the bird sanctuary quickly. The fishing boats and nets kept at a jetty at Kalupada ghat in Khurda district also caught fire. Till now, the administration has not made any effort to douse the flames,” said a source.
