26 fire alerts in Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj effectively handled: PCCF Nanda – N.F Times



Baripada: As many as 26 fire alerts were received today in Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) of Mayurbhanj district and all were effectively doused by an ODRAF team, informed PCCF (wildlife) Susanta Nanda.

Taking to his personal ‘X’ handle, the PCCF (wildlife) wrote, ‘Wildlife wing received 26 fire alerts in the Sanctuaries today. Happy to inform that our field staff with ODRAF, attended to all the points and have extinguished them. Salutations 🫡.”

More than 170 fire points were doused yesterday and the senior forest official was present when a team of Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF) brought some alerted fire points under control.

PCCF (wildlife) Nanda previously expressed through a Twitter post saying, “Was inside Simlipal Tiger Reserve for on-the-spot assessment of forest fire. Core not affected at all. 170 plus fire points in buffer till date have been doused. No fire points today. That gave time for the next best thing. Spent time with STPF. One of its kind in the country 🫡.”

Worth mentioning, Odisha Government has deputed ODRAF teams for Forest Fire Response duty in the State. Seven ODRAF teams were deployed in seven vulnerable forest divisions.
