Rajnath Singh proposes Narendra Modi’s name as leader of BJP and NDA in Lok Sabha – N.F Times

Delhi: Newly elected MPs of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) gathered at the Parliament complex on Friday to elect Narendra Modi as their leader, paving the way for his third term Modi 3.0 as prime minister.

In addition to NDA MPs, senior alliance leaders, including chief ministers, will attend the meeting where BJP president J P Nadda is expected to propose a resolution supporting Modi’s leadership, likely to be endorsed by allies and MPs.

Once Modi is elected as the leader of the NDA MPs, senior members of the alliance such as TDP’s N. Chandrababu Naidu, JD(U)’s Nitish Kumar, and Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde will accompany the prime minister to meet President Droupadi Murmu and present the list of supporting parliamentarians, according to some alliance members.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place on Sunday, sources indicated.

With 293 MPs, the NDA holds a comfortable majority over the required 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha.

Senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nadda, have been in discussions with allies to finalize an agreeable formula for their representation in the new government, which will critically depend on their support for stability.

The BJP leadership has acted swiftly since the June 4 election results to ensure a smooth government formation, aiming to dispel any uncertainty after losing the majority for the first time since 2014, now requiring allies’ support to maintain power.
