New Delhi: The government has announced that the online portal for passport applications will be closed for the next five days due to maintenance activities, starting Thursday.
During this time, no new appointments will be scheduled, and previously booked appointments will be postponed.
Individuals with appointments set for Friday, August 30, 2024, will be assigned new appointment dates.
They will receive notifications about the rescheduled dates and times as promptly as possible, as per an official release.
The Passport Seva portal will undergo technical maintenance from 20:00 hours IST on August 29, 2024, until 06:00 hours IST on September 2, 2024. Appointments scheduled for August 30, 2024, will be appropriately rescheduled, and applicants will be informed, according to the Passport Seva portal’s notification.
Application submissions, appointment bookings, and other related services will be unavailable during this maintenance window.
Authorities such as the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Regional Passport Office, Bureau of Immigration (BOI), India Security Press (ISP), Department of Posts (DoP), and the Police will not have access to the system throughout this period.
The Ministry of External Affairs has described the shutdown as a standard procedure.
“We always have backup plans for rescheduling appointments. Maintenance for services focused on the public, like the Passport Seva Kendras, is scheduled well in advance to avoid public inconvenience. Therefore, rescheduling appointments should not pose any issues,” stated a senior official.
The Passport Seva portal facilitates the booking of appointments at various centres nationwide for new passport applications or renewals.
On their appointment day, applicants are required to visit the passport centres with their documents for verification.
Subsequently, a police verification is conducted, followed by the delivery of the passport to the applicant’s address.
Applicants can opt for the regular mode, where the passport is delivered within 30-45 working days, or the Tatkaal mode, which ensures delivery within 10 days.
