AUT launches course on global pop icon Taylor Swift – N.F Times

Auckland: Auckland University of Technology (AUT) has introduced a groundbreaking summer school course titled “Taylor Swift: Communications Professional”. This course, offered by AUT’s School of Communication Studies, will critically examine Taylor Swift’s 18-year career through the lens of modern communications disciplines.

The course aims to explore Swift’s mastery in communication, which has been a significant factor in her media success. Students will have the opportunity to analyze her visual and audio content, critique her branding strategies, and apply communications theory to her body of work.

Scheduled to run from November 18 to December 13, the course will be held three days a week at AUT’s City Campus, coinciding with Swift’s 35th birthday. This initiative follows the success of Swiftposium, an academic conference held in February 2024, which highlighted Swift’s global impact and drew significant attention from both high-school students and fans.

Senior lecturer Rebecca Trelease emphasized that the course is designed for a wide audience, from high school students to established professionals, offering a unique opportunity to understand communication principles through the lens of a globally dominant figure in pop culture.
