New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi purchased an idol of Mahaprabhu Jagannath at the National ‘PM Vishwakarma’ Programme exhibition in Wardha today. The Prime Minister made the purchase using digital payment, underscoring the government’s push towards a cashless economy.
The exhibition, part of the broader ‘PM Vishwakarma’ initiative, aims to support and promote traditional artisans and craftspeople across India. The scheme, launched on Vishwakarma Jayanti, provides holistic support to artisans through skill training, modern tools, and market linkage support.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi interacted with several artisans, appreciating their craftsmanship and dedication. He emphasized the importance of integrating traditional skills with modern technology to enhance the global competitiveness of Indian artisans. The purchase of the Mahaprabhu Jagannath idol, a symbol of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, was a highlight of the event, symbolizing the blend of tradition and modernity.
The PM Vishwakarma scheme, with an outlay of ₹13,000 crore, aims to uplift the Vishwakarmas by providing them with necessary resources and recognition. The scheme covers 18 traditional crafts, including carpentry, pottery, and goldsmithing, ensuring that these age-old skills are preserved and promoted.
Prime Minister Modi’s digital transaction at the exhibition also served as a reminder of the government’s commitment to promoting digital literacy and financial inclusion among all sections of society.
