New Delhi: Manish Tiwary, the head of Amazon India, has stepped down in a major exit from the US retailer’s local branch. Insiders indicate that Amazon may not immediately name a successor for Tiwary, and the current leadership team will collaborate closely with Amit Agarwal, the SVP for emerging markets at Amazon.
Tiwary, who served as vice president and country manager for Amazon India, joined the company in May 2016 after a twenty-year tenure at Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), where he held various positions in India and abroad. His journey at HUL began in 1996 as a brand manager for Ponds.
An Amazon India spokesperson stated that Tiwary has chosen to ‘seek an opportunity outside the company.’
“Manish’s leadership for the past eight years has been pivotal in serving our customers and sellers, establishing Amazon.in as the marketplace of choice in India. Manish will remain with Amazon until October to facilitate a seamless transition,” the spokesperson remarked, emphasizing that “India remains a significant focus for Amazon.”
“Amit Agarwal, SVP for India and Emerging Markets, will continue to be deeply engaged with Amazon.in the team, steering its robust group of leaders to capitalize on this opportunity,” the US e-commerce giant commented regarding the current state of leadership in the Indian market.
