Young Indian pacer Harshit Rana unleashed a fiery spell, causing a significant middle-order collapse for the Prime Minister’s XI during the second day of the warm-up match in Canberra.

In an exceptional display of fast bowling with the swinging pink ball, Harshit Rana took four wickets in just six balls, leading to a dramatic collapse of the Prime Minister’s XI from a solid 131 for 2.

Harshit, who started his spell in the 15th over, initially conceded some runs but made a remarkable comeback in the 23rd and 25th overs, swinging the momentum in India’s favour.

The Prime Minister’s XI, comfortably positioned at 131 for 2, plummeted to 133 for 6 following Harshit’s explosive four-wicket haul over two overs.

The first significant strike from Harshit occurred in the 23rd over when he bowled Jack Clayton, who was on 40, with a spectacular delivery that shattered the stumps on the fourth ball.

The young 22-year-old quick then delivered another impressive ball, sending Oliver Davies back for a two-ball duck, reducing the Prime Minister’s XI to 131 for 4 at the close of the 23rd over.

Returning in the 25th over, Harshit struck immediately, dismissing Jack Edwards. He bowled a short one, and Edwards, attempting a pull, mistimed it, lofting the ball to Prasidh Krishna at long leg for an easy catch at just 1 run.

On the next delivery, Harshit secured his fourth wicket when Sam Harper was caught in a similar manner. Another short ball from the fast bowler tempted Harper into an ambitious pull shot, but he too mistimed it, offering Prasidh Krishna at long leg another straightforward catch.

Harper’s exit for a two-ball duck left the PMXI staggering at 133 for six.

In the subsequent over, Prasidh Krishna took out Aidan O’Connor for 4, plunging the PMXI to 138 for 7.

Earlier, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team won the toss and elected to field against Jack Edwards’s Prime Minister’s XI in the two-day warm-up match at Manuka Oval.

The opening day was completely rained out, and intermittent rain on the second day led to the 50-over match being reduced to a 46-over affair.

Through this warm-up match, India is honing their skills for the upcoming pink-ball Test.
