New Delhi: Commuters faced severe traffic disruptions on the Noida-Delhi routes today as police set up extensive barricades in anticipation of a large-scale farmers’ protest. The protest, organized by the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) and other farmers’ groups, is set to begin at noon from the Maha Maya flyover in Noida.
Visuals from the scene showed long queues of vehicles at the Chilla border and the Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) flyover, with heavy security deployment causing significant delays. The Noida Police issued a traffic advisory, urging commuters to use alternative routes to avoid the affected areas.
Farmers from various districts are marching towards Delhi to demand a legal guarantee on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, among other issues. The protest has been ongoing at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February, with farmers criticizing the government for not engaging in meaningful dialogue.
The police have advised commuters to avoid the Chilla border, DND flyover, and other major routes connecting Noida and Delhi. Alternate routes include the Sector 14-A flyover, Golchakkar Chowk, and the Kalindi Kunj route.
As the protest unfolds, further traffic disruptions are expected, and commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly.
